If you're
like me, then I'm sure you're also wondering why prices in gas, milk, rent, taxes, and everything else we need in everyday
living are going up. Although, what about minimum wage? Why is that going to take so long to go up just a few dollars?

We
all could use a little extra money in our paychecks. Although, how long is it going to take to get that minimum wage up? Well,
they say months but could it be years?
It's
funny how gas prices change everyday whether or not it's up or down. Who's in charge of that? Isn't it the
same people in charge of minimum wage? What I don't understand is how gas and other needed necessities can
go up in the blink of an eye. As for minimum wage, it's going to take "some time". What exactly is
some time? Will it increase once our rent has gone up? Or will it increase when taxes go up? It's not quite known when
it's going up but we all know as soon as it does go up everything else we need in everyday life will
also go up.
How can
they want to raise all cost of living, but not our wages is what gets me. Who wants to live from paycheck to
paycheck just because the system feels our wages should go up little by little? What I mean by "little
by little" is that they not only want to take long increasing minimum wage, but they also want to increase it in
increments.
That's
another thing I don't understand is that they are going to raise it in increments. So, while we are getting our
wages raised slowly, in the meantime all other prices are going up. It doesn’t quite make any sense for them
to treat us that way. I believe it makes if not some then most Americans like quitting or giving up on their jobs.
For example, each time I renew my lease at my apartment my rent goes up. Why not
each time I complete a task at work I get a raise in my pay? The way the system works today is a bit confusing.
Never have I gone to the grocery store or paid a bill and they tell me "You only have to pay a portion of the taxes,
until next time you return, and then you can pay another portion." Of course that would never happen but it would help us out
as consumers but it would not make any sense to the system to do that. It's either pay all or you get nothing.
Well
the minimum wage idea of going up in increments and as I stated before, taking a few months or maybe even years just
doesn't make sense to me either. What's the difference?

What
I also don’t understand is how they want to raise minimum wage in increments. Yes, raise minimum wage little by little.
Why can’t they raise minimum wage all at once like they raise our rent or our gas prices? For example, each time I renew
my lease at my apartment whether it’s every six months or every year, my rent goes up about $20-$35 a month. It doesn’t
go up in increments it goes up all at once meantime
my pay is staying the same and my rent is increasing more and more each time I renew.
How do they expect people to earn a living and make ends meet when our pay is staying the same and everything else
is going up? By July 2009, minimum wage should be $7.25. Now think about what I said before, when I renew my lease every six
months or every year am I going to be able to afford my rent by then? Maybe, not because it would have already gone up more
than $100. So you do the math and tell me if that is a smart idea or not.
So all I want is to be able to understand why the system
thinks this would be a good idea. Why should it be fair that all prices in food and gas go up everyday but our pay stay the
same? Lastly, why can’t minimum wage just go up to what it needs to be all at once not in increments.

By July 2009, minimum wage should be $7.25 an hour. Now think about what I said before, when I renew my lease every six months

years. So what does that tell you? Yes, each time it gets increased all other prices will also be increased.
All
I want is to be able to understand why the governement thinks this is a good idea and how they think it will benefit us as
employees.
