Should tasers be an everyday use on just anyone? Is the use of a taser out of control? By the looks of all the videos shown world wide on the internet and news it seems to be.

When should a taser be used? Perhaps when you are given permission to ask a question at a John Kerry speech or when you have forgotten your school ID at a college library?

It seems to be that policemen are taking advantage of the use of their taser they have been given to protect themselves from harmful people when on duty. It’s like they are using the taser any chance they are given just out of fun for themselves.

What is the taser really for and what does it do? Well it is an electroshock weapon and from my understanding is to be used by an officer who feels they are in a situation he or she cannot get out of because their life may be in danger. So that’s when the taser comes in and is used on the person causing the danger for the policeman. The taser sends painful shock waves through the body and could also cause the person to be momentarily paralyzed. All it takes is three seconds of use of the taser and the person will have severe muscle spasms and could also be out for up to fifteen minutes, and a lot of times the taser is not used once or twice on the person but up to five times. It appears by the news and internet websites that these policemen are using the tasers at the wrong time though.

For example, a University of Florida student was attending a speech given by Senator John Kerry and when given the opportunity to ask a question the student stood up and asked several questions and because of that he was tasered by policemen in the room. Another story I have recently learned about is another student at UCLA was also tasered just because he didn’t have his school ID to use a computer in the library. Yes the student may have been out of line by not having his school ID but what was the reason for the “campus toy cops” to use the taser on the student? If you watch the video the student in no way at all threatened the cops or put them in any danger.

All I’m saying is that maybe these policemen should have some sort of proper training on this weapon instead of just taking advantage of it and using it on just anyone. It’s like we aren’t safe anymore with the people that are supposed to protect us the most.

Yes as a student he should know the rules of carrying your school ID but what was the reason for the “campus toy cops” to use the taser on the student?             Maybe these policemen should go through proper training procedures before they are given this weapon. They should also be aware of the right time to use it instead of just taking the easy way out. After all, they are policemen and are supposed to put their life on the line for us. It’s like we aren’t even safe with the people who are supposed to protect us the most.
