As a child I remember Thanksgiving and Christmas being my two most favorite holidays of the year! For one we get time off from school, and we get to spend time with family and exchange gifts! One thing I still love the most about the holidays is all the great food my family puts together such as tamales, turkey in the oven, stuffing, all the famous holiday pies, and many more of those delicious foods! Although, when we’re eating all of these foods we are forgetting that they aren’t so healthy for us especially after eating theses things three or four times a day.

As a Hispanic I have learned that more of us today have been diagnosed with diabetes and the numbers are continuously rising. I believe that the way we eat today has a big effect on our future and on our children’s future. Are the holidays meant for us to be happy and enjoy spending time with our family or are we supposed to be careful and watch how we are eating? We would all like to just enjoy these days but not all of us are doing that. Know one wants to spend this joyous time watching the way we eat, but if it means staying healthy and living a longer life then we should all be watching what we are eating.

Studies are showing that during the holidays more people are gaining weight and forgetting about their diets that they have started months ago. That is because the holidays tend to make people more vulnerable. I know that when it’s time to eat Thanksgiving lunch at my house I serve myself a big plate and a few hours later if someone else is in the kitchen nibbling on something I follow right behind and soon find my whole family eating again. That will happen at least two or three times that day. So of course we don’t want to watch how we are eating we just want to enjoy our meals and our time with our family.

I believe that we should be more careful about what we are eating through out the whole year, and not just around the holidays. Eating safe and healthy is our future and our life and if know one else cares about the way we eat then maybe we should at least think about our children.
